Sharing doorstep photos of people, their hopes and connection during lockdown.

Photography series Looking for Rainbows was an initiative by urban designer Jenny Elliott, aiming to share messages of hope and community during the Covid-19 lockdown by photographing the hand-drawn rainbows appearing at windows across the city, and the people that created them. During the first 7 weeks of lockdown starting March 2020, Jenny cycled to neighbourhoods across Edinburgh to take 100 doorstep rainbow portraits.

The aim? To share some positive stories of community, solidarity, gratitude and hope during these unprecedented times.

A self-initiated photography series, Jenny Elliott used her lunchbreak during lockdown to cycle across Edinburgh taking these Looking for Rainbow photographs. It was a privilege to meet so many wonderful people. I enjoyed exploring parks, back streets, cycle routes and part of the city more fully than I had before. Thanks to everyone who took part.
