Urban Design
I am an Urban Designer and Chartered Landscape Architect interested in innovative ways to create places that improve quality of life, health and well-being, are environmentally sustainable and distinctive.
I have applied data-driven, co-design, and end-user research methodologies to inform design, decision-making and planning of the built environment for both public and private sector clients for 15 years, winning multiple industry awards.
I am currently working on PhD research exploring how innovation in urban design, data, user experience and co-design could lead to more sustainable, healthy, future cities. This includes a focus on the ways novel digital technologies and data-driven insights can support best practice urban public realm design.
I also undertake freelance urban design projects, illustration and graphic design commissions.
Testimonial
“What struck me about working with Jenny was the clear and concise way of communicating alongside an understanding of the nuances and the challenges in creative, collaborative work. She brought both her own expertise and creativity alongside that of others to create a piece of work that was of excellent quality and delivered through a working process that was a delight to be a part of, and responsive to the sensitivities required of working with multiple partners.”

Urban Design projects
A portfolio showing some examples of Jenny Elliott’s urban design work. With over 15 years of experience in urban design and landscape architecture with a focus on collaborative design, impact evaluation, public spaces, active travel, user experience, placemaking and combining data-driven research with human-centred design to improve built environment project outcomes, I bring a holistic approach to designing cities that are both sustainable, evidence-based and people-centred.
I work with local governments, built environment consultancies and other professional organisations to create designs that promote walkability, sustainability, and social inclusivity. I use visual communication through photography, graphic design, digital illustrations and infographics to document and share the project process and transform complex urban data into engaging, actionable visuals to communicate effectively with a wide audience. My expertise in both the technical and creative aspects of urban design enables me to deliver comprehensive design solutions that improve the quality of life for city residents, and find ways to bring these projects to life through impactful visual storytelling.
I also specialise in urban design research - including public life studies and street assessment, and current PhD research at University of Edinburgh in collaboration with industry partner Connected Places Catapult about how to overcome practical barriers experienced by built environment professionals in order to deliver greener, healthier public spaces at greater speed and scale.
